THE CONFERENCE
Region IV of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will hold its annual Professional Development Conference
in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on March 25—26, 2010. The value of the safety and health professional is increasingly
important in today’s economy and there is a need to advance the level of knowledge within the profession to
meet rising
expectations of performance. It is the intent of this conference to fulfill this need in a dynamic and
enlightening setting.

LOCATION
The conference will be held at the historic and elegant Hilton Capital Center in downtown Baton Rouge. With more than $70
million in renovations, the hotel has been restored to its former state of grandeur. During the conference, there will be ample

PRE-CONFERENCE SEMINARS
Facilitator Training For Process Hazards Analysis – Monday, March
22 - Wednesday, March 24th This course is specifically
designed for those desiring qualification to prepare,
lead and document a Process Hazards Analysis (PHA). The course
covers the following essential knowledge/skill areas: regulatory requirements,
design and preparation, leadership and facilitation,
post-PHA requirements and revalidations. Candidates should have experience in manufacturing and/or chemical process safety.
Upon successful completion
of the course, candidates will receive a certificate of regulatory significance qualifying them to
perform PHA using the Hazard and Operability
(HAZOP) and What-If methods. Price: $1995, which includes conference
registration (required).
Incident Investigation: Root Cause Analysis - Wednesday, March 24th This course examines accident
(incident) investigation and analysis as a
means of preventing injuries, property damage and financial losses. Coursework
focuses on techniques for gathering complete, accurate and
objective accident data used to arrive at true root causes and
determine
corrective action. Participants will learn a step-by-step investigation procedure for analyzing all possible root causes.

Price: $200 for conference attendees

Registration fees are only $250 for the full conference
($300 for non ASSE members and $100 for ASSE student members). This
includes all general and educational
sessions, program materials, vendor exposition, continental breakfast, refreshment breaks
and lunch on
Thursday and Friday.

CHAPTER NIGHT OUT— HOUMAS HOUSE
The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of ASSE proudly presents
a Night Out at the historic Houmas House Plantation Home
and Gardens on Thursday, March 25th. This Greek Revival
mansion is commonly known as the “crown jewel of Lousiana’s
River Road” and has been associated with many film
projects and commercials. Attendees (and their registered
guests) will be led on a guided tour of the house and will be
able to tour the gardens at this unique sugar plantation.
Following the tour, participants will dine at Mike Anderson’s
Seafood Restaurant— a local favorite featuring authentic
Cajun cuisine. Price: $65, including transportation, guided
tour and dinner.

TECHNICAL TOUR— FIRE AND EMERGENCY TRAINING INSTITUTE (FETI)
The Greater Baton Rouge Chapter of ASSE will be hosting a
technical tour on March 25th from 12:00pm to 4:30pm.
The Institute – one of the premier Emergency Response facilities
in the U.S. offers advanced classes in industrial, municipal,
and marine fire fighting in addition to medical, Haz-Mat and rescue training courses. In addition to the tour,
participants will
witness live burn demonstrations. Price:
$25, including transportation and lunch


KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
John W. Drebinger, Jr. A nationally recognized communication expert and a talented magician, John will deliver a fun
message that celebrates your safety successes and creates a roadmap to a more productive and safety year. Using group
participation, magic and real life stories, John will help you raise the expectations, vision, passion, and energy of your workforce to
make a safer and more productive workplace!

Adele L. Abrams is an attorney and safety professional who represents employers and contractors nationwide. Ms. Abrams will
be
speaking about OSHA’s new enforcement strategies and the pending Protecting America’s Workers Act, which heightens civil
and
criminal penalties as well as whistle-blower protections.

EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS
This year's educational program consists of two general sessions and multiple sets of concurrent sessions over
two days
featuring experts who share their expertise on the latest topics including:
